About this Plan

Hawker Super Sea Fury. Radio control scale model racer, for electric power.

Note the 'original' drawing here is the CAD zip download (in dwg format). That's the file that Giuseppe sent us, and that is his design, his work. The PDF file you see here is really just a taster, a PDF file in this slot for Oz users who don't have a CAD viewer.

Direct submission to Outerzone.

Quote (google-translated from the Italian): "Without a doubt, Beppe Ghisieri is one of the most prolific of Italian aeromodellers. Over the years he has designed and built dozens and dozens of models ranging from acrobatics to gliders with ease. In his own way he is an artist and like all artists he has his 'periods'. Just as Picasso had the Pink and Blue Periods, Ghisleri now has the 'Racer Period'.

For over a year, in fact, he has been producing electric semi-reproductions of racers in the Unlimited category at increasingly sustained speed, all characterized by 'human' dimensions for 3 or 4 cell engines, rigorously traditional construction in balsa and plywood.

After the Kingcobra (oz14197) and the Stiletto (oz14273), now it's the turn of the Sea Fury 'Furias' which you will read about in the following pages.

But it doesn't end here: the family grows and the saga continues. Coming soon on modeling ca va sans dire!

As promised in the Stiletto article, here I am to present the latest creation of the 'Racer series'. By now I can really say that it is a series, also because the next racer is already in advanced construction. The only difference, compared to the previous models, is only in the type of aircraft reproduced and in the use of a different engine, but the basic philosophy is always the same: lines very close to reality, no landing gear, structure in balsa and poplar plywood, reinforcements in glass fabric where they are needed, i.e. at the junction between the central part and the external wings. The fuselage is covered with 40 g/m2 fabric up to the middle of the tail boom, then I only applied resin with a brush on the bare balsa.

As estimated, despite having advanced the position of the battery pack as far as possible, it was necessary to place about 150 g of lead in the nose, just behind the engine, to bring the CG where it needs to be. The model weighs a good 2350 g, about 30% more than the KingCobra, but the handling and behavior in flight have nothing to envy of the previous models; on the contrary, the use of a more powerful engine increased the speed despite the presence of that bulky circular section fairing.

The motor is the Sunnysky X2820 with 1100 KV, the battery is 4S x 4200 mAh and the propeller is an APC 11x5,5. In these conditions the engine absorbs 67 A, the power generated is 960 W and the propeller turns at 1,2450 rpm.

The weight was felt in a striking way at the first catapult launch when, having stretched the elastic as usual, when the model was released..."

ScaleType: This (oz14296) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawker_Sea_Fury
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
