Quote: "Hi! I am sending you the plans for the Graupner Weihe 50. Nice greetings!"

Update 28/12/2022: Added kit instructions (in German) and exploded view, thanks to Reinhard.

Quote (google-translated from the German): "The flight model has a wingspan of approx 3255 mm. In order to obtain optimal flight characteristics, some changes had to be made to the model compared to the original.

For the installation of the landing flaps, the white glass fiber plastic fuselage has two corresponding holes in the connecting ribs to accommodate the bearing bushes. Markings are made in the connecting ribs to make it easier to determine the exact position of the aileron servo board. The wing is in two parts and is attached to sufficiently dimensioned tubes in the fuselage using strong steel pins.

The WEIHE 50 is not intended for aerobatics.

The tailplane is in 2 parts and is attached to the fuselage with strong spring steel wire. If necessary, the RC flight model can be equipped with a tow release, eg item no. 68 and equipped with a suitable towing model, eg JODEL, order no 4652 to be raised. Further information about the RC equipment of WEIHE 50 can be found in the construction plan. The accessories for installing the radio control system are included in the quick assembly kit.

General: The white fiberglass hull has holes for the mounting tubes. The aluminum tubes still have to be glued in place. The fuselage is dimensioned in such a way that it can withstand rough flight operations. A higher strength of the hull is achieved by 'tempering'. Tempering is a manufacturing process in which the part in question is exposed to a higher temperature for a specific period of time, which then improves the structure.

Minor blowholes on the hull surface are due to the manufacturing process. If necessary, first remove the release agent at these points and then sand down wet (water) with 400-grit sandpaper. After the water has dried, fill in the indentations with DEVCON epoxy adhesive and, after the adhesive has hardened, sand again and then coat with paint.

The punched parts are carefully separated from the boards with a sharp knife or a jigsaw and then deburred. In any case, always adjust or adjust all parts before assembly and grind away Use the plan drawn on a scale of 1:1 as a check. Various positions have oversize for fitting.

The assembly parts from the fuselage, wings, tail unit, etc, are arranged according to the position numbers. A flat, straight soft or balsa wood board of sufficient size is required for the construction of the two wing halves and the tailplane etc. If there are parts on the plan that need to be assembled, then staple them to the board and cover them with non-stick paper or foil that is as transparent as possible to protect it.

Due to the paper format of plan sheets 1 and 2, the right and left half of the wing are not drawn in their entire length. To assemble the wing, the respective plan must be cut up and the separately drawn wing end piece attached as explained on the plan.

Use the blueprint, exploded view, photos, and parts list as ongoing aids in building the model.

Important note for bonding: The table provides information on the adhesives that can be used to bond the various materials.

Note: The areas to be glued to the fiberglass fuselage should be sanded down slightly to remove any release agent that may have adhered.

Assembly instructions: The fuselage with canopy and rudder consists of parts (1) - (49).

The two connecting sleeves (2) and (3) as well as the control board (5) and support (8) are resinated into the fuselage after the shell of the wings has been completed. Fit the steering gear boards (4), (6) and auxiliary bulkhead (7) with the fastening nuts (DD) into the fuselage and glue them in place.

The two sleeves (9), (10) and the fin spar (11) are only glued in after the shell of the tailplane has been completed. Push the canopy frame (12) onto the fuselage, mark the outline of the fuselage and cut it off by the material thickness of the canopy (20). Set up the parts (13) - (17) according to the construction plan and drill the corresponding holes in the canopy frame. Before the parts are glued in place, paint the canopy frame with UNIVERSAL paint (colors of your choice). After the paint has dried, glue the parts (13) - (17) into the corresponding holes in the frame.

The frame brace (18) must be fitted into the fuselage so that it slightly clamps but does not force the fuselage apart. Do not insert part (18) completely flush with the cabin cutout in the fuselage. Coat the bonding surface of the canopy frame with UHU-hart and insert it into the fuselage cutout..."

This "Weihe" (harrier) model had a prefabricated fuselage made of ABS Plastic which could pose some difficulties for those who want to recreate it.
oz7424 is no workaround because it has the same problem.

The fuselage is made of GFK ,not ABS !

Hello, I got a fuselage some years ago in a poor quality, but able to fly ! I used a "Leger Modellbau"-ribset with flat bottom airfoil. It was not easy a built the wing according to the plan. If you want to use this ribset drop either the helpspare or use 1,5 mm spruce (pine) instead of making spaces into the rips.
If you want to make an according to plan wing, you can use the ribset made by Cgulltec....

Hello Mary, hello Steve, First of all: Merry Christmas and good health in the New Year. I am sending you the pictures of my „Weihe 50“ attached [pics 007-009]. I built the fuselage out of wood. The fuselage has two interchangeable fuselage tips. One is for gliding and the other is for electric flight. The wings are ironed with antique foil and the fuselage is primed in ivory. The model is now ready for the first flight. The final color finish is given to the model after the first successful flight. kind regards,

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
