About this Plan

Flying Wing sorta A6.

Direct submission to Outerzone.

Quote: "Hi, The recent discussion online about, in part, direct submissions vs. copying from the net made me think of this design. I only have a copy from a newsletter of this plan, but the original drawing was mine. One of these days I should do a 3D model and illustration to make things a bit clearer. The original, physical model is a bit banged up right now, so a picture wouldn't be useful. Looks like I submitted it to Hip Pocket [see datafile] shortly before I was aware of Outerzone. I wrote the following notes at that time:

This is a simple but light sport flying wing model.

Way back when, there was an A-6 postal contest, and even, as I recall, a part of it for 'A-6 flying wings', which were allowed to use the extra square inches of the missing stab in the wing.

This model did something over two minutes under an 18 foot ceiling, but the turn was really strange looking and tight, so I suspect that it had much more potential.

Suggest building it as a pusher, which might cure some of the weird turn. Or perhaps a bit less dihedral. Or put a pusher prop on one side of the stick and a tractor on the other! Doesn't really qualify as an A-6, so suggest use of real prop instead of the flat paddle style these rules required. A much smaller prop shaft would be adequate as well. And possibly a larger diameter prop.

I can't find my original, this version was published in Wingovers and Wallbangers, Nov. 1998. Lincoln"

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
