About this Plan

Vindicator Mk X. Control line combat model.

Quote: "Original design circa 1970. New dwg Oct 2003 using TurboCAD V7."

Quote: "I had a Jr Satan (oz1816) and while it was a lot of fun the low aspect ratio does tend to slow down a lot if you try to turn too tight. And frankly it was rather delicate and broke fairly quickly. After flying a bunch of designs I went for my own higher aspect ratio model. Here's the plan done in CAD which I did up a few years ago.

This model as shown with the hard balsa spars and spruce leading edge when covered with silkspan and dope withstands just about anything you can give it short of center punching a large rock. On 26 foot lines when trimmed for balance and elevator throw it can start from about 3 feet off the ground and do a vertical figure 8 without getting very close to the 90 degree elevation of the circle.

As shown it's intended for an 8cc Cox stunt tank on the engine so there's no fuel tank in the wing. And you'd need to build out the mount to put the crank case out ahead by that far so it would balance. If you elect to install the balloon tank inside that DO NOT CUT THE LEADING EDGE! That strip of spruce is what gives it the crash resistance.

Of course if you can promise me that you won't crash it during actual combat then by all means make the leading edge in two pieces from medium balsa instead."

Update 11/11/2022: Replaced this plan with a revised version (smaller filesize), thanks to Bruce Matthews. This is the same plan drawing, just more compact.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
