Rose Parrakeet A-1 (oz14139)
About this Plan
1936 Rose Parrakeet A-1. Rubber scale model.
Direct submission to Outerzone.
Update 21/10/2022: This planfile is of dubious origin. It is clearly derived from a scan of the 3-view by Bjorn Karlstrom. Many thanks to Pit for finding a copy of the original 1972 drawing. This version here has been modified to show some internal model-type structure, with formers and stringers. This is not a fully developed model plan.
Supplementary file notes
Original drawing.

ScaleType: This (oz14139) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.
If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.
Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose_Parrakeet
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.
Corrections? Use the correction form to tell us the new/better ScaleType link we should be using. Thanks.

How very nice, a plan by Bjorn Karlström. He remains one of my favourite 3-view artists. I couldn't find a 3-view of the Parakeet by him, but this plan came up in American Aircraft Modeller 1972-04. In that issue, there was a 3-view of Bjorn's all right, but it was a DH Tiger Moth.Miguel - 19/10/2022
I have to admit, now I look at this again, I think this is a 3 view and not a model plan. Shouldn't really be here. But it's a nice drawing.
SteveWMD - 19/10/2022
This plan is a rubberizzed attempt on the original 3view: someone superimposed a possible fuselage stick side frame and formers adaptation for the frame. Not completed (rear peg and so long) but we can consider as a rubber powered desire. Pit

Really...here we go again. Steve...please...what are your specific parameters of "a plan?" For many, it's as simple as an outline.... This is detailed...enough for me to work from.
Neal G - 19/10/2022
You can work from anything Neal, because you have the skills of a modelling genius. For me, a model plan (as opposed to a 3-view) shows complete layout of the internal model's construction, how to assemble the model, the shapes of the internal formers, the dimensions of the wood used, that kind of detail. Really, the solution to all this is for me to create a separate new section on Outerzone for 3-views. Then we'd have a place for everything :)
SteveWMD - 19/10/2022
Thank you, Steve for humoring my question. :) Of course, OuterZone being as stated, a repository of "vintage and old-timer plans" makes your definition entirely correct.
Ask an individual what is the color of a shadow...you'll get all manner of interesting responses...but a true artist will probably give you a surprising answer. What does the trained eye see?
When I was a child, long before hand-held calculators and CAD programs, I was scaling up 3-view drawings using dividers and ratios...this is to that as that is to this...and since the original 3-views were usually small and found in books, the process necessitated conversion of fractions. All the "stuff" that went between the lines was child's-play.:) I suppose it matters as to where we've all come from...thank goodness things have advanced beyond that tedious process. Oh...and I certainly am no "genius," which more properly is a nomer applicable to you and Mary. Thank you, sincerely.

Perhaps Saint Neal of model making? ;-)

Saint may be a bit strong. But Paladin, perhaps?

"Really, the solution to all this is for me to create a separate new section on Outerzone for 3-views." - And I second the motion! What an idiot, I couldn't tell a 3-view from a plan! At least now I have a the Parakeet 3-view I didn't know I was missing 8-)
"I was scaling up 3-view drawings using dividers and ratios." - Thank goodness for old farts :-) What, no slide rule? At times mine was smoking like a steam loco gone loco!
Miguel - 19/10/2022
Steve, I was under the impression that you were actually considering, at one time, the creation a separate new section on Outerzone for 3-views. Did this never get past the planning phase?
Jan Novick - 20/10/2022
Yes. Basically, I don't see how I could find enough time in the day to admin another busy new section of the site, and do it well. But maybe we should re-visit that.
SteveWMD - 20/10/2022
Just add a specific tag for such drawings/sketches and leave the rest as it actually is. It's pretty good like that.
Hubert - 21/10/2022
Concerning 3-views, that would be A Good Thing. I have a large hoard of those that I'd like to bring here. I know of large collections in RCG and HipPocketAero to name just two, but I'd like to deposit mine in the Outerzone :)
Miguel - 21/10/2022
I hear you. Ok, maybe we should try and get some more opinions on how to do it. I should really start a thread on RCGroups to discuss this, that's a better forum environment, but for now, lets say: Everyone please add your thoughts here - 3views good or bad? What would be the downside? What should we avoid doing?
SteveWMD - 21/10/2022
My first thought: we'd really want a setup where volunteers can login and help out with the admin. Less work for me (hopefully) but also an upside is you would get a quicker turnaround/response that way, too. More of a free-for-all. Less tidy maybe.
SteveWMD - 21/10/2022
I agree with the RCG discussion. As for tidiness, currently, we have this Oz Dual Monarchy :)) which works but at a cost to them. "Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown" and all that. The 'democratic' model is proven, but it is better with an 'oligarchic' layer above, also called Moderators, Tribunes of the People, Kommissars, Muleskinners, or whatever you choose.
Miguel - 21/10/2022
Wow! I didn't expect to wake up to all of this! Personally, I love really well-rendered 3-views...but let's face reality...there are beautiful 3-view drawings...and then there are all the rest that's out there. So...by definition...what are we talking about here? If one chooses a subject aircraft and then researches what's available out there...you end up with a lot of rejects before finally (hopefully) arriving at something that's useful. Outerzone's stated mission is to make available "vintage and old-timer plans," not act as a library of all that was ever drawn concerning the subject! I for one truly enjoy the site format as is...and yes, I do attempt to push the parameters...but that's just me (my apologies). I'm nuts enough to think of every plan as something of a 3-view in the first place...always coloring beyond the lines, so-to-speak. Sooooo...got to be cautious with this issue...avoid overtaxing the machinery. Steve and I have had the discussion a few times concerning 3-views as plans and he has recommended that a submitter apply a bit of build detail (such as the plan items he's already listed) in order to keep things in accordance with the site mission statement. For me, that's certainly reasonable and accommodating...even when it's after I've already constructed the model. : )
Otherwise, we risk altering the purpose of Outerzone as stated...DON'T want to do that. A thousand 3-views of the same aircraft...all differing ever so slightly...not to mention of questionable accuracy...would break the camel's back I'm afraid.
Thank you all...love this hobby...and blessed be Outerzone! : )
Neal G. - 21/10/2022
What Neal said... In summary -DON'T - [sorry Miguel 8-( ] BUT... If you're gonna open that Pandora's box, create a "sister" site, like you did with "RC Library". My 2 cents.
RC Yeager - 21/10/2022
Interesting. How about putting 3 views on Oz but as a category, in the same way Extras and Engines are a category? I guess simple search would then be best not to include 3views in search results. I appreciate that not messing up the way Outerzone currently works, and the current view, is important.
SteveWMD - 21/10/2022
Ok, have started a discussion thread on RCGroups for more on this. See https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?4226095-Outerzone-thoughts-on-adding-3-views for more, and indeed to jump in and add your 2c.
SteveWMD - 21/10/2022
If it's set up as a separate category, then searches could be limited to to within the category, rather than the entire site. I realize that this would require the creation and management of a new database (a daunting task in itself), but if enough people who are interested in such a feature would be willing to volunteer in the effort, it would help to ease the burden of our already overtaxed administrators. Neal's astute observation regarding "a thousand 3-views of the same aircraft...all differing ever so slightly...not to mention of questionable accuracy", mght be mitigated by the inclusion of any and everything submitted and leaving the decision making up to the individual builder. I'm always in favor of more, rather than less, information when planning a model, especially where scale details are concerned. I'd personally like to see such a category and would be willing to assist in its creation.
Jan Novick - 21/10/2022
Thanks for the offer Jan - I may well take you up on that.

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
