Quote: "Dear Mary & Steve, I had noticed a recent addition of the Hacker kit Tiger Moth to the listings and provide here some scans of the corresponding Piper Cub kit. I was not able to stitch the plan with the Epson scanner I have [fixed now]. The scans are grayscale 400 dpi. I am partially through a build of this model with rubber power and will provide some photos soon. I did not have the print/CNC cut wood with the old kit I had, but I did draw around the ribs with a 0.05 mm pen onto the plan. Maybe another can assist with the missing items? Cheers, Adrian"
Quote: "Attached are three photos of the Hacker Piper Cub build so far [main pic, 003, 004]. I modified the wing to a one-piece band-on, and the nose to accommodate an 8 in Gizmo unit. Weight before covering is 45 grams."

ScaleType: This (oz14115) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.
If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.
Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piper_J-3_Cub

Dear Mary & Steve, Thanks for the plan inclusion. The plan is very spiffy and better than the original! Attached are a couple of photos of the completed model [main pic, 007], set for flight trimming on the next indoor session on the 17th. Weight without rubber motor is 55 g. Balances close to what suspect is the CG. Thanks,Adrian Culf - 10/10/2022
Dear Mary & Steve, Sorry to report that the test flights with my Hacker Piper Cub did not go well. OK when flying straight under free flight and rubber power. However, this is seriously limiting when flying indoors! Does not like to turn which is a sure sign that the tail surfaces are of too small an area for free flight. Probably controllable with RC fitted. I'll make a bigger tail.

Sounds like the cg may be too forward. Moving it back a little bit may work.

Over the Christmas hols, I had a chance to make a new, bigger tailplane for the Hacker Piper Cub. It's a flyer now! Attached is a comparative photo of the old and new [pics 008].

You're right, the stabilizer looks really small. The rule of thumb is 22% of the wing area. A larger stabilizer allows a further back CG. Nobody will notice the larger stab. Years ago I built a Columbia Space Shuttle, made the wing twice as large as scale. We flew it at Huntsville where some of the NASA guys worked. They thought it was dead on perfect. I didn't tell them.

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
