About this Plan
Robin. Rubber sport model. Simple, all-sheet profile design.
Quote: "Let us set the Way Back Machine to 1992... a work buddy that helped run a pack of Beaver Cubs asked me if I would be interested in helping his group to build a simple model airplane as one of their activities. After asking a few questions about what he expected and the age of the kids I agreed.
As part of the prep I did my own version of Bill Dean's Five Giant Steps... dut in only four parts. The Robin shown here is Project 3 in the line. A while back someone asked about a simple to build model for a similar youth group and I responded with Project 1, a simple chuck glider. And I also posted a teaser picture of the plan for the Robin as a possible follow on. That got rchopper56 (Gene) all enthused and he asked for scans. I finally did the scans a few days ago and Gene was nice enough to stitch them together. And rather than just toss you some plans I decided to build my second Robin and post this build thread along with the plans.
The first Robin was built back in 92 and flown in the gym where they flew their Project 1 gliders as well. It hung around and got flown about 50 or 70 more times over the next bunch of years. But it finally found a thermal that liked it more than me and it flew off about 8 or 10 years ago. It's a good little small park flyer that I think some of you will enjoy..."

Apparently they don't make the side metal of pop cans as thick as they once did. The original used the side stock and was quite durable. The new version shown in the picture above used current side stock from a pop can and burst out from the first hard landing. The sheet metal bearing is still a good way to go. But it needs heavier metal. The top of a pop can would work. Or the top of a flat sardine or smoked oyster can would also be ideal. Or even just use a soup can. It's steel instead of aluminum so it's a touch heavier. But it's a small enough piece that it won't affect the trim by enough to matter. The whole idea of the sheet metal was to avoid the need to shop around and buy brass tubing. But that could be used as well. Or come up with your own solution. As long as it's a nice low friction bearing it's all good.Bruce Matthews - 17/11/2022
How about digging through eBay for a vintage pop cans vendor? You may find something up to spec there :)

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
