Quote: "A picture's worth a thousand words...or so it's said. Here's a crude plan for a rare bird, the DFW B-1 of WW1 fame, or infamy, depending upon one's point of view. They were very numerous over the various war zones during the first years of the conflict, then rapidly replaced by armed aircraft. This particular model is from the Austro-Hungarian Air Service, more specifically the K.u.K. (Navy) as indicated by the red/white/red wing tips.
Model is very basic, simple to construct...largely of 1/16" strip stock...16" wingspan, but could be reduced to peanut scale quite easily. I've used the cracked-rib method for the wings...along with 1/16" strip laminated leading and trailing edges...that makes things very simple. Model was originally constructed from a nice 3-view that I've crudely altered to create a plan...my apologies for its "rough" appearance. Before it's pointed out to me...I've neglected to illustrate the few fuselage bulkheads (is a basic box). They're easily fabricated...blanks glued in place, then carefully shaped with a sanding block. Told you this was simple/easy.
This was the aircraft from which aviators began shooting at each other with "gentlemen sporting rifles." That proved quite ineffective and quickly escalated to the use of machine guns. Such modifications led to the B-1 (unarmed) giving way to the "C Series," armed reconnaissance aircraft.
Thank you to Steve and Mary and all these lovely plans!"

ScaleType: This (oz14072) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.
If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.
Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DFW_B.I
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

What a beauty, Neal, what a beauty...I believe this is one of those models so simple in structure that one doesn't need any detailed plans: it's all there in plain sight, just measure the drawing and you have all the 'formers' (you don't need formers, use cross braces) and whatnot. Not even a wing section, just lay up the leading and trailing edge spars, add the main spar at 1/3 chord or so, and the rest are split ribs.
What I only miss here is your Steel Spider. A model like this and no rigging?

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
