Quote: "Hi Mary and Steve, Please find attached PDF plans and construction article for another model - this one 'Zlinnet'. Although published as a free plan with RCMW in February 2015, the prototype and models shown in the article were all built and flown at least three years earlier.

This design evolved following our early experience with several simple foamy fun-fly models we imported from overseas at the time. I figured we could come up with a model that would perform as well without the hassles and delays from ordering overseas, and cheaper too.

The basic design was based on one of my favourites from the attractive and fine performing stable of fullsize Zlin aerobatic aircraft. Several models were built at the same time using different materials. The plans provided here detail my preferred build at the time.

We couldn't access 'Depron' or other high density foam when the originals were built, so the simple profile fuselage was cut from low density 'brocolli box' foam that had been run through the bench-saw to provide 1/2" thickness. The wing was a simple symmetrical section balsa build covered with iron-on plastic film.

The result was a fine performing model in the best fun-fly tradition. It was flying all manner of crazy antics in short order, and survived most of the inevitable mishaps surprisingly well.

The attached article details some of those antics, including the fun from attaching a cheap small video camera. I still have one of these well-used, but still airworthy models among my small fleet.

Best regards, Alan W"

Update 19/9/2022: A note on the scaling of this plan. This here is a scan of the fullsize paper plan, as published. The title block printed on the plan says wingspan is 900 mm. But measuring the plan, the wingspan is approx 960 mm. This is simply how the magazine and the plan were printed and published. With that in mind, here at Oz we will list this plan here as 37 in span (to the nearest inch). Thanks to Alan W and Paul Dallimore for checking this.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
