About this Plan

Gypsy. Wakefield cometition rubber model.

The classic Earl Stahl Gypsy (oz8554) Wakefield model was first published in the September 1942 issue of Flying Aces. This here is a later redrawn version.

Direct submission to Outerzone.

Quote: "Here are details of my plane: Good looking guy in that 'red' shirt. That is me (Mike McIntyre) back in 1999 at the SAM Champs at the age of 38 at Muskogee Oklahoma [main pic]. I won 1st place for the SOS event. The plans are of the Earl Stahl Gypsy that was redrawn by John Blair for Campbell's Custom Kits. Those plans were redrawn to incorporate a DT fuse behind the rudder.

The Gypsy I flew was flown with micro R/C equipment and an electric motor. The equipment is: Becker 6 channel micro brick on 72mhz. Micro Demon 10amp brushed controller for 4 to 8 cell nicad pack. (I used 4 cell 1500mAh pack) and it was BEC. Motor was a 180 size that was geared 6:1 and turned a 3-blade prop. That setup I would get almost 30-minute flights with just the motor. I won with a flight time of over an hour."

Just a quick note for anyone who is feeling deja-vu on seeing this photo [main pic] of Michael in the red shirt, again. Previously we posted this pic on the other (Model Builder) Gypsy plan page at Gypsy (oz12322) but now that we have this version of the plan, Michael's pic seems better placed on this page. Have shuffled the photo across to here.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
