About this Plan

Goldberg Anniversary Cub (Piper Cub). Radio control sport scale model. Wingspan 76-1/2 in, wing area 744 sq in. For 4 channels and .40 to .61 engine. Scale is 1/6.

Note the plan also shows a clipped wing version at wingspan 67-1/2 in, wing area 648 sq in.

Quote: "There really is nothing like a Cub! The CG version retains the honest, easy to fly qualities that made the full size airplane famous. With the standard long wing, the model is a very graceful, realistic flyer. It’s aerobatic performance tends to be big,round, and slow.

Like the full size airplane, the model can be modified into an aerobatic version by shortening the wings. This 'Clipped Wing' option is a thrilling aerobatic machine that will provide outstanding performance, including point rolls, inside and outside maneuvers, snaps and spins.

Building is easy, but to prevent simple mistakes, the step-by-step instructions should be followed. Many a modeler has made two right fuselage sides instead of one right and one left as a result of not following the directions.

The Cub can be finished in any of the unlimited color schemes of of the original airplane. We show three popular types; standard, sport, and military. Color scheme information's provided later in the instructions.

We’re sure that you will enjoy countless hours of flying fun with your Goldberg Cub, just as generations of pilots have had with theirs!"

Quote: "This used to be a popular model here in the US. You may want to add it to your excellent collection of plans. Carl Goldberg models were usually well made and flew well. Like many kits designed in the 80s, it sacrificed some scale accuracy and weight to ease of construction, hence the liteply fuselage, strip ailerons, etc. Thanks to Beppe Fascione for finding it. Marc de Angelis"

Note the Carl Goldberg site is now defunct, but see wayback machine for original Kit-63 page at: http://web.archive.org/web/2006050318290... for lots of spec details and parts references.

Update 15/8/2022: Added (hand traced) parts files and alternate plan scan (maybe clearer to read), also a clearer scan of the instructions, thanks to Paul Sluce.

Hi Steve and Mary, Just seen this latest addition to your plans website, and it brought back great memories - one of the few 'kit' builds I've done, but definitely one of the best [main pic, 004-008]. This was one of the best RC planes I've ever flown, using an OS70 fs Surpass swinging a 14x6 prop. Flew most of the time just a couple of clicks above idle. I built the full wing version at 76" but it was capable of more than enough aerobatics for me - was a really great flier. I didn't bother using the struts, which were mainly aesthetic on this version anyway, as the wing was built like a girder! Sadly I wrote it off on its 94th logged flight by making the mistake of 'changing my mind' half way through a manoeuvre. It was a long way off, and disorientation set in as it disappeared behind some trees. This was immediately followed by a loud 'crunch' - a sad day! Please find attached photos of airframe and completed model, a couple with my wife holding it to give appreciation of the size - feel free to use them on the web page. Best regards,

Hi, Thanks for the plans! I built mine from a kit in 2016 [pics 012-015] with the long-wing option. Some of the parts like wing ribs and fuselage parts were mostly already laser cut and the whole plane was really a joy to build. I decided build it per instructions and carefully tried to keep everything as straight and true as possible. Ever since it's been my favourite model of all time. I put an OS46 two-stroke in it and it turned out to be even a bit too much for my taste... Built a couple of laminated plywood skis for winter flying trips. Please find attached a few of photos of the airframe.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
