Quote: "Electric power was quite new to our small rural club around the turn of the century. I had dabbled with it with a couple of vintage type models, Tom-E-Boy (oz13732), and Kereru (oz13202). These were both docile models that were nice to fly, but modelling friend, Ian, suggested I might produce something with a little more exciting performance. The Speed 400 motor and associated gear was all that was available to us then so that dictated that a small model would be required.

I recall it was a wet and cold wintry night with nothing of interest on TV when I started pencil doodling on a foolscap pad. The aerobatic fraternity favoured the 'Extra' style aerobats at the time and so that basic style coloured my thinking. Inside an hour of freehand scribbling and erasing I arrived at something I figured held some promise.

The local newsagent had a photocopy machine that could increase and/or reduce pages for a few cents and so I came home with a print increased to my specified 36 inch span. It was a simple job to trace over it and produce a workable preliminary drawing using my trusty old drawing board and tee square...

This model is constructed along regular lines using conventional stick balsa and film covering with some consideration given to building in lightness along the way. Apart from one or two fiddly bits owing to its small size it proved to be a straightforward and satisfying build.

I was delighted with the subsequent flight testing. It proved to be more aerobatic than I expected and apart from a very fast roll rate, not unlike my favoured old patternships from the past. It really isn't a beginner's model, but will provide lots of cheap fun for anyone who can handle a regular sport aerobatic model. Alan W"
