About this Plan
KK Phantom. Control line model. For the Mills 1.3cc diesel. Plan includes printwood.
This is the original (open cockpit) design of the Phantom. Planfile includes some printwood.
Quote: "Keil Kraft Phantom. 21 inch wingspan control line trainer. Still the most popular beginner's CL trainer, the Phantom features all-sheet construction for long life and easy repairs. The kit is absolutely complete and even includes parts for a control line handle. Among the prefabricated components are the wing panels, tail-plane, fin and fuselage sides. For engines from 1 to 2 cc."
Plan and wood supplied by Modelmad.
Note Keil Kraft ad [more pics 003] is from Aeromodeller, October 1957.
Note this here is the earlier KK Phantom. For the later 1960s version with bubble canopy, see Phantom (oz2806).

This is the original KK Phantom with the open cockpit. I recall making one of these from a kit that had a Webra 1.5 cc diesel for power but I stuck a bubble canopy on so it looks like the other versions and painted it to look like Ken Long's Tigress. Here's the Tigress pic: http://static.rcgroups.net/forums/attachments/4/5/9/8/2/t4382668-89-thumb-Tigress.jpg?d=1319979399essem - 12/09/2012
Hi Mary, Another Brisbane Control Line club are flying a simplified Phantom racer which seemed like fun. My son sourced the Outerzone 1946 (oz1397) plan and had it enlarged to the same size (31” span) as an alternative. Although involving more work to build I felt the original Keil Kraft design was far more attractive than the simplified version. With the increase in size and the lighter motors that we now use the original Keil Kraft design would, in my opinion, be tail heavy. Consequently I worked from the enlarged Outerzone plan but moved the wing back and produced a plan for our clubs use. We are allowing some personalised modification such as open or bubble canopies, top planking or balsa block etc. Currently we have a number of these models under construction and mine has been finished and successfully flown. We will be recording times for 50 laps with one model flying at a time rather than the standard team race concept. I am pleased to say my model flies very well and is powered by a Parra T3 diesel. Most of our other members will mainly be using OS 15 glow motors. I though you might like to see some photos of my new Phantom racer [pics 004-008]. I can send you some photos of our clubs other models when they are finished. Thank you again for providing plans for these older designs which enables us to relive the fun we had as kids. Cheerio, John Lewis (CLAB President)

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
