Knight Twister (oz1394)
About this Plan
Knight Twister. Control line scale gas model, for Cox Tee Dee .010 power.
Quote: "Jim Triggs models the Knight Twister. Classic lines of this sleek biplane prove great attraction to the artist who mates famous plane to the .010 cubic inch displacement Cox powerplant for a remarkable control line miniature; a real beauty!
Designed by Vernon W. Payne in 1928, the diminutive Knight Twister became one of the most admired home-built designs during the 1930's. The original Twister was powered by the 45-hp Salmson AD9 seven cylinder radial engine. The second version which was made in 1935 and 1936 was powered by the 70-hp Douglas Bear-Cat inverted four cylinder engine. Modern homebuilt versions of the Twister employ the 85-hp Continental four cylinder opposed engine for the most part but a few have been built with larger engines up to 150-hp. The Twister has always been a racy-looking ship and long a favorite among the model-builders.
In a rare surge of ambition the author built this little Twister around the tiny Cox Tee Dee. 010 engine, using the style of conventional control-line construction usually reserved for larger models. While this is admittedly a fussy bit of work, the finished product will be a slick-looking, tiny control-line job with a wingspan only a little over ten inches, No transportation problems here - you can carry your airplane in an oversize cigar-box!
The fuselage is built up around a 1/4 plywood crutch using 1/16 sheet balsa formers and a 1/8 plywood motor mount bulkhead..."

ScaleType: This (oz1394) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.
If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.
Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Payne_Knight_Twister
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

Greetings, I fell in love with this plan when I was a little kid. I used to spend hours looking through my Dad’s model airplane magazines. I particularly loved the illustrations by Jim Triggs, of airplanes, guns, and cars. Looking at his illustration for this article, hasn’t he got it wrong? Shouldn’t the control lines curve the other way? Let’s be careful out there.James Hickman - 13/04/2022

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
