About this Plan

Caudron M2. Radio control sport scale model, for electric power.

Direct submission to Outerzone.

Quote: "Good morning, Here are the drawings and print wood for my 57 in Caudron M2. My reference was the smaller N1, but I was trying to build a stand-off scale 'warbird' for a scale fly-in at our club. The problem with that is that there are no drawings or reference material for the M2, so I took what I could find and developed this little girl, adding the pre-war French roundels and livery (plus my own 'squadron' logo). She is an easy airplane to fly, and she has the capability for basic aerobatics. Hope you like her.

I tried to simplify the design and build as much as I could and still maintain as much scale as possible without going overboard. The flying wires are for decoration, they are not functional, and I used a 9% Clark-Y for the airfoil because an under camber wing is a pain in the behind to cover with MonoKote.

I've included the STL files for the 6 cyl Gnome engine. It is THE finishing touch that the airframe needed.

Here's a link to the build log:

And here's a link to the flight video:

along with a bunch of pictures. And this is basically all I had to start with... (see pic 006).

Best regards as always,

Update 14/11/2022: Replaced this plan with a revised version (Rev C), thanks to Charlie Fite (for a copy of the older version, Rev B, see supplement file).

Quote: "Good morning! I have to build the Caudron again... I destroyed the first one when a wind gust caught the right wing on take-off and she cartwheeled across the runway like Nadia Comenichi, shredding the left wing, breaking the aft portion of the fuse all to pieces, destroying the motor and that 6-cylinder Anzani. The pilot survived! I'm changing the airfoil to a 15% Clark-Y, better spacing on the ribs, and a cleaner design for the control horns on the feathers, plus a few flying wire details, cosmetics, etc. Also going to reduce the tail weight. Finished the revised drawings ....see attached.

Here's the new build log:

Hope you all are safe and well,"

Supplementary file notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
