Quote: "Bitty Viper. Our well-named 1/2A Proto Speedster is a control-liner that will win a contest or give hours of fun hanging at end of the lines. Inexpensive too as the .049 engines go all-out in effort at minimum cost per mile. By Carl China.
1/2A Proto is the best thing that has happened to control line speed in years. True, a 1/2A proto model may be small-er, slower, less noisy, and have consider-ably less tug on the control handle than its more powerful predecessor - the Class B proto. Nevertheless, if you are looking for -a fun event, 1/2A Proto is for you.
The original Bitty Viper was built in 1965 and now has 91 flights to its credit. Weighing a relatively heavy seven ounces, it represents the author's 'first cut' toward the optimum 1/2A proto. As such the design does not yet have the advantage of many years of refinement. Even so, the performance and flying characteristics appear to bear the hallmarks of a thoroughbred proto.
With a stock Tee Dee .049, K&B Speed Fuel and a Tornado 5/4 nylon prop, Bitty Viper attains proto speeds of 70 to 77 mph and top speeds of 85 to 90 mph. Modified props of 4 and 5 pitch have been tried but only slightly faster speeds were obtained. The original model has been flown in six contests to date with the following results..."

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
