Filey Flier Mk2 (oz13802)
About this Plan
Filey Flier Mk2. Radio control sport model for electric power.
Quote: "1912 Filey Flyer
Designed by Graham McAllister in 2022
Wing span 48 in
Electric motor 2212-1250KV or similar
Propeller 8x6, 9x6
Battery 3S 1300 mAh
3 channel, rudder, elevator, throttle
This is a redesign of my original 1912 Filey Flyer from the mid 1990's. This Mk2 version takes into account the use of a brushless motor and a Lipo battery. The original was powered by a 2.33:1 geared 400 motor and 7xAA nicads. The new version uses a 2212-1250KV motor which gives ample power on a 3S Lipo and 9x6 propeller.
This isn't a scale model but rather a representation of several flying machines of the day.
About the name; Filey is a small coastal town on the north east coast of England. The famous aeroplane builder, Robert Blackburn test flew his designs there. He constructed a hanger part way up the cliffs from which the aircraft were manhandled down a concrete slipway to the beach for flying. The Filey Flying School was established there.
This is an easily built model for rudder, elevator, and throttle control. The rudder is very effective with the designed dihedral. The Filey Flyer is quite aerobatic for a 3-channel model; loops, barrel rolls, and a lovely spin can be enjoyed.
The notes on the plan should be enough for a builder with a little balsa building experience to follow."

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
