Strolch (oz13742)
About this Plan
Strolch. Free flight towline glider model. Wingspan 1820 mm.
Note the Strolch design dates back to circa 1936. This here is a later reprint.
Quote (using google translate): "Introduction: The 'Strolch' glider model is a performance model for advanced pilots with a wingspan of 1.82 m. Developed from the beginner's flight model Baby (oz7417) through further development, it represents an improvement and perfection of the same in terms of flight performance. Naturally, the demands on the dexterity of the builder are therefore somewhat higher.
Because of its extremely low rate of descent, the Strolch can also perform beautiful gliding flights in areas where there are only small differences in altitude; especially when using the high-launch method described here. Just as with the Baby the author has also trodden the same path with the Strolch, to perfect the flight model through many tests and improvements. The experience in which the baby was able to assert itself in a very pleasant way in German flight model construction proved how correct this path was.
According to the purpose of the construction plan, progressed Instructing flight model builders required various manual skills and construction methods, which even the beginner learns, are assumed to be known here. If you still want to build this flight model first, we recommend that you first read through construction plan no.2 Baby from the same collection.
Construction: It must be emphasized that the greatest care is required when building such a high-quality model aircraft as the Strolch.
Construction of the support structure: When making the ribs (7), you must work with particular care. Both when tracing and when sawing out rough ribs, make sure that you always stay on the middle of the line. The main spar (1) is bent in the middle according to the arrow shape of the wing and is reinforced here by a wedge piece (2) glued together from two strips. After gluing the two 5 x 15 mm strips together, they are machined exactly as shown in the drawing. Only then is the spar slightly moistened at the point to be bent, coated with glue and firmly connected to the wedge piece (2) by wrapping it... "

Note this is a modern reprint of an older (circa 1936) design. Page 4 of the (German) instructions covers RC installation. Quote:
"RC installation suggestion Strolch: A radio control can be installed in the Strolch glider model as shown above. However, so that the character of the classic design is retained, no parts have been changed or added. The accessories required for installation are not included in the kit, they can be obtained individually under the order numbers given above. Small radio control systems with 1 or 2 servos are sufficient to control the model. The model flies very inherently stable, so that it can be steered just with the rudder... "
Update 6/4/2022: Replaced the instructions file with a clearer copy (now as a single file, total 4 pages), thanks to Axel_VPF.

Greetings from Alaska, I have a history with this model sailplane I would like to share with you. This model inspired me into this hobby at a young age. I’m sending photos from a newspaper article about this model and myself published a few years ago [pics 004, 005]. The photo of the embroidery on cloth is from a shirt I used in 1974 [006]. My mother did this for me from the Strolch plan.

Here’s my new Strolch [pic 007] with radio control and electric motor in Alaska. It’s an enjoyable model to fly.

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
