About this Plan

Wasp 1300. Radio control sport/aerobatic model. Wingspan 1300 mm, for 36-40 2-stroke engines or 40-56 4-stroke.

An enlarged conversion to RC of the 1955 Mercury Wasp (oz10901) CL design.

Direct submission to Outerzone.

Quote: "Hi Steve and Mary, It seems I cannot stop designing Wasps. First was the 26 in span Wasp RC (oz13193). Then came a 38 in span Wasp for Super Tigre ST20/15 RC. Now the latest Wasp is 51 in span (1300 mm) for Saito 50.

All have been delightful flyers with similar excellent characteristics, but the latest definitely has more presence.

Hopefully I've added enough notes on the plan, but I've added some explanatory photos in the construction notes. Regards, Warren"

Hi Warren, Looks like a nice bird. Could you comment on AUW? Thanks,

I've never weighed it, but it's pretty light. The Saito 50 takes it vertical easily and it floats in nice and slow for landing, I'll weigh it and let you know.

The all up weight is 1950 grams or 69 ounces or 4 lbs 5 ounces.

Are plans available for the 38 inch Wasp for 20/25?
DeanP - 02/03/2022
The 38" was for a 2.5 cc diesel (ST20/15D), it would be way overpowered by a 20/25. I have to admit I didn't draw a new plan for the 38" version, I just scaled up the 26" version. For a 25 I suggest just printing the Wasp 1300 at about 85% to give around 43.5" span which should be about right.

Warren, What a beautiful design! I love your choice of covering. It reeks of old school cool! All three, very nicely executed! Bravo!

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
