Light My Fire 40 (oz13419)

About this Plan

Light My Fire. Radio control sport aerobatic model for .25 to 45 engines. Wingspan 59 in, wing area 634 sq in.

Note this seems (see comments) to be a straight copy of the Trainer 40 (oz12744) originally designed by Joe Bridi. But this one here has had the title block butchered. Of dubious merit.

Direct submission to Outerzone.

Change the wing tip shape, add 1 rib for each wing and you will have the RCM Trainer 40. Rudder shape is the signature of Joe Bridi's design style. It looks like an Uncle Willie's variation on theme.

I don't think it's an Uncle Willies plan. Uncle Willie (no longer with us) tended to "improve" the plans to include needed items like the WHOLE wing instead of just half. This plan seems to be the kit version of the Bridi Trainer 40, later sold by Great Planes, slightly different from the RCM plan. Somebody changed the title, probably fearing copyright problems, who knows. Great drawing of the K&B 40 though, at one time be most popular engine available. Mine was the best running engine I ever had, but I ran it so much I eventually just wore it out. I bought another one only to find out they had made changes, and it was a piece of crap. When something that works is improved, it doesn't work as well. Murphy.

Well spotted Doug, it looks identical to Great Planes Trainer 40-oz12744. Note the bad whitened wheels...

When it comes to model airplane plans, it seems that shoddily disguised plagiarism is the sincerest form of flattery.

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
