Quote: "Superb PAI design by an ardent competitor. Takes a .15, spans 60 in. FAI Raider, by Joe Bilgri.

If you have ever been bitten by the European fever bug, the Raider could be the model that will help you win a place on the FAI Power team. Eliminations for the 1960 and '61 teams are scheduled to take place in the Spring and Fall of the year, so this design should see lots of use. it can also be used in Class A Free-Flight contests.

Do not wait until the last minute to build this model. In a ten flight elimination contest, you must know your model and engine well enough, so that every flight is made with the engine running at peak rpm's with engine runs of not less than 14 seconds. This can be accomplished through extensive test flying, and once you have mastered this, the Raider will take care of the rest. (Providing of course you are fortunate enough to stay away from downdrafts.)

With an Olympic .15 well tuned, it will easily do over the necessary three minutes. One of the main downfalls of many modelers is that they try to fly too many events, and this seems to hurt the FAI Power event fliers the most. If you spend too much time flying the other events, you get too rushed to know your engine and timer well enough under the pressure of competition. I have second and third place finishes in the Power Semi-Finals to prove it - so profit from my errors.

In building the Raider, use ample cement on all joints, for weight is no object. While it might seem like there is a lot of wood in the fuselage, the cross section is small..."

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
