About this Plan

Schoolboy. Radio control sport model, for electric power. Wingspan 36 in, wing area 216 sq in. For 6mm depron foam, or similar material.

The Ken Willard Schoolboy (oz1030) first appeared in MAN, Jan 1962. This here is a modern redrawn version using foam construction and electric power.

Quote: "Here are shots of a model I developed from the Outerzone plans. Here's what I did:

1. Downloaded the Ken Willard Schoolboy pdf plan file
2. Converted the pdf to a jpg via GIMP
3. Imported the jpg into LibreCAD
4. Resized the jpg to the wing area I wanted (which turned out to be almost exactly 100% )
5. Traced the general outlines. I DID increase the fin and rudder a bit, using Chuck Cunningham's design proportions, and I reduced the dihederal. My rationale was that I would be running a 6" prop at (relatively) low rpm, as opposed to the 3", high rpm prop Ken used on a Cox .010.
6. Replaced ALL the structure with foam and a handful of lite ply bits.
7. Replaced the original airfoil with a KFm2 airfoil AND made a second wing with a thin section so I could compare the two.

As a three-channel model, the Schoolboy came out 175 to 190 grams, depending on which Lipo pack I used. I did later add strip ailerons to the KFm2 wing, so the weight crept up to just over 200 grams.
Net result is that I now have a gentle, fun trainer-ish model, all made from foam. Bill Bowne"

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
