Quote: "The realm of R/C is a world apart, a fantasy land untouched by the straining, demanding realities of the society that churns around us. The elements of R/C are basic: a strip of grass, a clear expanse of deep blue sky and a handmade work of flying art.
R/C is a personal, first-hand experience that must be participated in to be really appreciated, One has to be involved to understand the craftsmanship, the concentration, the pride that goes into this endeavor. R/C is the essence of dynamic aesthetics: speed, color, incredibly agile aerobatics and power. Power screams from the engines that wind up and up and up until only a steady roar can be discerned; power is experienced as gleaming racers hurtle by in a thunderous crescendo of Doppler explosions; and a quieter type of power exists: the soft, silent, nearly intangible electronic fingers that hold each aircraft and guide it surely through the sky.
Yet power, beauty and mystical technology with all their inherent excitement are, in and of themselves, an incomplete picture of R/C. It is the individual's involvement that really gives it meaning. The creative effort of turning a stack of lumber into a sleek machine, eager foe flight, is a satisfaction only a builder can know.
The - I know how it works because l made it with my own hands and isn't it neat - feeling is a secret a spectator can never share. Only an R/C pilot knows about the speeding pulse rate and the sweating, trembling fingers as a winter's work is launched on its maiden flight; the elation of a safe return to earth; the confidence that grows as new skills are mastered; and the endless search for something different, something better.
The first flight of a newly finished model is the best. This is the one where butterflies invade the stomach, where nervous laughter and jokes like 'it will never fly' and 'back to the drawing board' are bantered back and forth. Fumbled tools, spilled fuel and the awkward clumsiness of slightly shaking hands are covered with deliberate casualness.
The day of the Eagle's first flight is met with mixed emotions. The unspoken uncertainties rise as the bird is prepared for flight. The numerous things that could go wrong surface mentally and are pushed aside. We came here to fly, and that is just what we are going to do! We are committed.
The controls are checked a final time, the needle-valve tweaked a shade richer for insurance, and the Screaming Eagle taxis out to line up on the 'duty runway' (as we call our vacant lot).
A smoothly advanced throttle and the Eagle is suddenly up and alive in its own element. The unbelonging wheels retract out of sight, and the Eagle is no longer just a machine. Fine trim adjustments are made, and it's time to wring the bird out and see what it's really made of. We start with a loop very nice. Rolls, Cuban Eights, spins (good both ways!) and inverted flight all look good. A cautious note of optimism is felt. Wait! What's this? An extra bonus! The anhedral/dihedral configuration of the wing generates enough lift in knife-edge flight to smooth out the Four-Point rolls! Now that feels good..."

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
