About this Plan
AS-14 (Air Sport Type 14). Radio control sailplane model. Wingspan 2.6m.
Direct submission to Outerzone.
Quote: "Dear Steve, some time ago I saw a french Modell pilot who rebuilds a vintage glider model called AS14 and presented it in retroplane forum. It was little bigger than the original AS14 from 40s I was thinking a long time and came up in the end to enlarge it a little bit more. 2,6m and the weight should be 2.6kg, so far a wish but I kept it under 3!
The plane was redrawn in CAD and the original fins at both ends of the stablilizer were redesigned to a single fin in the centre. The surface should be in 0,4mm plywood and look like the original scale gliders from that time. I need to find an airfoil beeing good enough, especially for these tiny tip wings and I gave the last4 ribs out of the aileron a slite wash out. Apropos ailerons, ther should be something completely new,… completely? I decided to build the hinges in Aramid, start with the plywood, a slite diagonal layer and balsa above, before the wing is started to build the complete hinge is prefabrivated. So as I was satisfied with it I build it in, otherwise thers the chance for a second try. But it came up that thing work like they are scheduled in my head. Same to the “air build” of the tail, there is no jig needed, all the ribs were half thread in the last bulkhead/frame and puzzled in position, all further parts stabilize this construction and ensure a good straight build.

Note the main planfile here is a single PDF file with 13 sheets. This serves as a quick overview. For a more detailed (itemised) view, see the supplement file "named_sheets.zip" for the same plan, but here each plan sheet has a title of material and size. Then of course there is the full CAD file download in DXF format. Steve.
Update 13/05/2021: Added build instructions (in German), thanks to Mattias. Total 56 pages, with lots of photos showing construction details.

This plan is available for download in CAD format.
Did we get something wrong with these details about this plan (especially the datafile)?

User commentsHi Matthias, is that an Gee Bee R-6 / Q.E.D in the background? Looks impressive! Cheers,

Fantastic job, Matthias, you obviously took immense pleasure in the complex design and in the careful, excellent building. Thank you for another fine old design resurrection, this is splendid!

About the Q.E.D. I asked before: It is one, I found it in one of Matthias´ youtube instructional videos on how to vacu form a canopy. Superb.
Martin - 11/05/2021
Hi Martin, yes it a Q.E.D, the Version from Jim Moss flown by Rich Aldridge. i build it in 100inch for a 5 cyl Moki 150er but it could also carry a 250er!
I made a break in the project in Autum last year 2020 som information to the splitflaps were missing... and will renter the project this winter. You can follow it on https://www.fpv-treff.de/forum/index.php?threads/geebee-r6-q-e-d-ii.118/#post-1555 but you have to register. Or on: https://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/rc-scale-aircraft-169/4580796-gee-bee-conquistador-5.html When the plane flies, the plans and all stepfiles will be published here, if you are fancy before ask steve for my email ;-) cheers Matze

Hi Matthias, thanks for the links! The build in the 2nd link really looks impressive. I will wait patiently until you publish the set of plans here at OZ, as I still got an awful lot of projects (mostly paper models) on my list which will easily keep me busy till then. Everybody knows the "R-1" and the "Z", but the Q.E.D. is something else and it should raise more than just casual attention.

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
