Mini Skyman (oz12859)
About this Plan
Bowman Models Mini Skyman. Radio control sport trainer model. For .049 engines.
Quote: "Bowman Kits. Instructions for THE MINI SKYMAN. A 36 inch wingspan Sports/Trainer model for .049 Engines.
Introduction: The Mini Skyman has been developed as an alternative to the Simple Skyman which has had a great success over the past two years. This Mini Skyman can be transported fully assembled in the boot of most cars with ease and flown from the small field.
Construction: THE FUSELAGE:
1. Using the plan provided take the two basic sides and mark the position of formers F.1, F.2 and F.3 as well as the position of the undercarriage and wing seat doublers and the undercarriage reinforcement segments (all cut from 1/2 x 1/8 strip).
2. Glue into position the above mentioned strips and segments. Ensure a pair are made, not two identical sides.
3. Make up formers F.2 and F.3 from 1/2 x 1/8 strip. It will be noted that F.2 is approx. 1/16 in higher than F.3.
4. While the formers are setting make up the tail plane unit as indicated on the plan from the 11-3/4 x 3 x 1/8 sheet and 1/2 x 1/8 strip provided. Ensure a large fillet of glue is formed each side of the tail plane fin and bend the undercarriage units using strong pliers, or a vice.
5. Glue F.2 and F.3 into position with one of the fuselage sides lying flat on to the building board. Ensure each frame is upright (90°).
6. When set, glue on the opposite side with the original side remaining on the building board. Using a square on the building board check for true alignment around the edges of the structure and adjust if necessary.
7. When the above structure has set joint the tail complete with the 1/4 x 1/4 tailpost which will need to be sanded to a slight taper. To check true alignment run a straight edge between the exact centre spots of the formers and project the line to the tail which should coincide with the centre of the tail post.
8. When set add the tailplane followed by the top and bottom 1/16 sheet balsa covering (cross grain).
9. Glue into position for F.1. after first binding and epoxying into position the nose leg.
10. Add 1/8 sheet balsa front cabin sheeting.
11. Bind and epoxy the main undercarriage legs to the plywood support and when set glue into position. Ensure that the plywood fits between the 1/8 sides and between slots in the 1/2 x 1/8 doublers and reinforcing strip.
12. Add the front 3/16 nose blocks carefully noting their positions.
13. Add the 1/16 sheet plywood undersheeting carefully notching it to clear the undercarriage legs. Ensure a good bond is obtained onto the under-carriage mount.
14. Drill the holes for the wing retaining dowels... "

Just to say i am delighted to finally find this plan and look forward to building it again. Last time in 1981 with a baby bee and acoms 2 channel, this time with a black widow and lighter radio gear.Simon - 09/01/2022

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
