About this Plan

Nieuport 28. Peanut scale model WWI biplane.

Direct submission to Outerzone.

Quote: "And still another 30-plus year old model and plan...a Nieuport 28...from my glassed in display case. This model was a revisiting of my very first Guillows model project...way back in 1957, when their Nieuport 28 (oz4151) kit showed up in my local hobby shop. It retailed for literally 5 times the ordinary Comet kits that I’d been constructing...a real fiscal decision for me at the time. Alas...was worth every penny of the price...beautiful plastic scale wheels...prop...and cowling. Of course...I eventually realized all the shortcomings of that extra weight...but at the time, thought I'd died and gone to model airplane heaven.
Model is of course...peanut scale...latex painted...intended as eye-candy for myself...just a little treat...94th Aero Squadron, Signal Corps, United States Army, AEF, 1918."

ScaleType: This (oz12838) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nieuport_28
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

So why do i feel so incredibly inadequate whenever I look at pictures of another one of your models?

Thank you, Jan! Modeling is such a wonderful experience, whatever the subject and skill level. It's really an effort to reach out and touch history. As a small boy I was so enthralled with the exploits of "Captain Eddie" (Rickenbacker) that my Guillows "28" just had to be the best airplane in the world...no matter how humble my building abilities were at the time...and now this little peanut has taken me full circle back to my own history. The nuances of what Rick told me about are present...the offset guns, the ailerons on the bottom wing, and the tendency to shed fabric from the upper wing in a dive. That's what modeling is all about...the history, then and now...and sharing it with friends.

I see your nerves-of-steel spider was active at the time :-) A very nice tribute to E.R., who seemed to be quite a decent type too.
Flying model planes in 1957? I must have been in diapers at that time. And not talking either, which many think of as a blessed time :-))
A salute, Neal, that cupboard of yours must be a proud sight!

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
