Midsummer Daydream (oz12172)
About this Plan
Midsummer Daydream. Radio control HLG model.
Quote: "I have always been fascinated by gliders. I suppose it originates from watching birds, but to me the beauty of a plane wheeling silently and apparently effortlessly through the sky cannot be matched. So of course I had to build one for myself. The limiting factor was size; while a 100s glider offers high performance it needs space and a lonely field where it can do no damage - and in Cambridge there are few slopes available.
What I really wanted was a glider compact enough to fit in a large rucksack so that I could cycle to a nearby field (at 16 that is about the only form of transport available) and light enough so it would be easy to towline launch and would fly slowly enough to teach flying basics in a relaxed manner. And thus Midsummer Daydream was born.
Fuselage: As the glider was intended to be slow flying, the fuselage is of light construction. First, the sides are cut out (including holes for front wing dowel, sevo mounts and switch harness), and the nose and rear blocks (soft balsa) are roughly cut to shape. At this point holes are drilled into the rear block for the tail boom and wing dowel. Both sides are stuck to both blocks simutaneously, using the top view of the plan to minimise banana tendancies..."

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
