Maltese Falcon (oz12049)
About this Plan
Maltese Falcon. Radio control sport model, for .40 power.
Quote: "The Maltese Falcon, by Major Ed Moorman.
I am not a pattern flier, and the Maltese Falcon is not a pattern plane. I know it has the sleek look of a pattern ship, and you could fly novice class with it, but I didn't design it that way. My design goal was a sharp looking, low-wing sport plane that would be inexpensive to build and have a nice slow landing speed.
The Maltese Falcon turned out to be a winner in all these areas and more. With moderate control throws it is a great little, mild-mannered .40 sized sport plane. But when you are attacked by the twin menaces of boredom and apathy, increase the elevator and rudder throws, bolt on a tuned pipe, and you have a super fun plane, the snap-rollingest machine you've ever laid your hands on. Let me go into some more details of the performance and design of the Maltese Falcon.
PERFORMANCE: The Maltese Falcon will snap roll both upright and in-verted. When it snaps, it snaps hard, and you'll hear a 'whoosh' as the plane burbles the air and rotates. Release the controls and the plane stops and stays there. These snaps come from a lot of control and not from an unstable design. The plane absolutely will not snap on elevator alone. You can do square loops and square 8's starting from a high-speed pass using full up control without worrying about an inadvertent snap.
A Lomcevak is another maneuver tha you can do with the Maltese Falcon. Enter from a climb, do a snap and a half, and then reverse the elevator and watch it tumble. If you like knife edge, try it with the Maltese Falcon. It will hold knife edge as long as you can see it. The inverted performance is tremendous. You can..."

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
