About this Plan

Zeus (aka Problem). Radio control sport model. Wingspan 1.48m.

Quote: "Hi Mary, Steve, here are plans of the 'Problem' design, by the Belgian designer Fritz Heese, who wrote for the German magazine 'Modell'. This 'Problem' was sold as a kit by the former Robbe company under the name 'Zeus'. I didn't find this plan at yours, nor at Hippockets, Aerofred and also not at the German archives Paul Hucke and Kirchert in Vienna. Now the question about the plan comes up again in RC-Network.de, and I don't want it to appear on Ebay as a copy and be offered for a fantasticatillion... Unfortunately I've no building instruction."

Supplement 3 views pdf shows comparison specification of both Zeus and Problem.

The following is pikpak's translation from German to English of the attached article file.

Quote: "From the German magazine 'Modell' February 1963.

The Götterdämmerung continues. The pagan gods in distribution from Robbe named Thor, Donar, etc, have now been given a boss, namely the Zeus that used to be a problem. However, this problematic Zeus is without a problem, as confusing as this may be because we know him, and old model readers as well. It deals with the multi-channel trainer model 'Problem', which our author Fritz Heese, Hagen, for and with the company Robbe as Quick building kit published to the Toy Fair. The coincidence between the Problem and Zeus goes even further, in the Zeus not only has constructive and aerodynamic properties, but also the painting of the Problem has taken over.

This is highly positive and shows that, as at Graupner with the Caravelle, also the experts in Grebenhain have a tendency to put already proven designs without concessions into the production of the R/C model aircraft, who want to get ahead, into the hands of of R/C model pilots.

Heese's original name of Problem might be misleading there, he has namely his first sample construction, which was still completely 'private', not called Problem because it was problematic, but because a solution to some problems, which him with multi-channel aerobatic models were opposed. The one solved problem was to make a tame but aerobatic, uncritical, multi-channel model and the second is to make it so that it can even start it from the hand.

The Problem, pardon the Zeus, is - we write off from 'Model' 4/62 - a shoulder wing aeroplane with about 1,5 m span and one-piece wing with a biconvex profile for engines from about 7 to 9 cc and the typical for fast models small longitudinal dihedral of about 0,5°... [Mary and Steve, now you've lost me. It's all up with my english ;-)]

The box body is designed so that the upper edge of the side faces simultaneously surface support, motor traction axis and support of the nose of the elevator is. This facilitates building and trimming. On the lower main hull section later then 'lid' in front and behind Wing support glued on. Originally the Problem is only a two channel model, i.e. with rudder and elevator only, so you can also do this with the Zeus. But with ailerons this is a full-fledged aerobatic model, even though not a very sharp one. But sharp need we don't know who really flew aerobatic trainers to the limit, so that they boring, is then itself so far, to 'polish' them. What the model bau needs today are good trainers. It can't give enough.

By the way, it would be nice if the individual companies for their different models names from certain would choose groups of terms, as it so far Robbe already with the names from Norse mythology has. One could then already from the naming the affiliation of the individual model developments to the companies recognize programs that are always start to round off more and take on a character of their own. When it's in the South Seas a typhoon, the Modellbauer today already associations and thinks of certain Graupner model engines. However, a typhoon is already a hurricane, and as it happens after the typhoon hurricane, the new double bearing Racing diesel with 2,5 ccm from Graupner, should continue with the naming, if there's ever a better one should (which certainly should be the case once is very difficult to detect, because how can it be even more violent than a typhoon? Maybe we'll start again at the bottom of the sequence: 'Typhoon breeze, gently whispering like the mild summer wind (with an built super-silencer)', or Right with that last bang: 'Typhoon Atom - no fuel consumption, a single filling with nitroglycerine is sufficient off for the entire service life'. No offence, dear manufacturers, it's all about names, and they're smoke and sound."

Thank you to PikPak for this really most substantial donation to OZ (for me at least). Such a nice pack which really made my day. And a 100% thumbs up for the lines about this most anoying ebay problem!

Great article, sharp as a dagger! Mr Heese in the warpath ought to have been an Olympic sight :-)
Nothing wrong with the model, it has all the looks for a great flyer. Thank you to Pikpak for his bringing this, and thank you to the Unknown Editor who restored this plan from the 60 year old horror in pic 006!

Hi, I have just finished my Zeus [model photo & more pics 007-009]. Engine is a 10 ccm FMO Boxer, made in the sixties. All up weight is 2460 g. Currently our airfield is closed due to that bloody virus, so maiden has to wait.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
