Profile Mustang (oz11791)
About this Plan
Profile Mustang. Radio control profile scale model fighter for 1.5 cc power. Prortotype used PAW 1.49.
Quote: "Mustang! Build William Beavor's 1.5 cc powered fighter.
Ever wanted your own P51 Mustang? Well, why not build this one? It won't cost much in time or money and its lots of FUN. Other features include strong one piece construction (ensuring more flying, less pre flight-preparation), compact size (easy to-transport), totally accessible control rods and linkages, high manoeuvrability (including inverted, when fitted with the tank shown) and economic flying when fitted with the recommended diesel engine.
Using a diesel does have the additional advantage of keeping back-up equipment to a minimum. Just think, no glow plug battery and no glow ping to give you a hard time. It's a case of fuel it, flick it, fly it. But be warned, this is not a beginners model. If you thought diesels were only for powered gliders and vintage models think again. Better still, build a Mustang and find out for yourself.
Wing construction: Use the templates on the plan to cut the foam cores, but note the washout. This improves the model's performance when it's time to land. The wings are then Obechi veneered in the usual way.
You should new have two veneered wing panels - small, eh? Now glue the leading and trailing edges (including those distinctive P-51D leading edge gussets) and shape them. The tips should be made from light laminations of 3/8in (9mm) balsa. Once they have dried, glue in position. Now carefully mark the exact positions of the two spars and radio bays. Note that the length of both spars is greater on toy of the wings than the bottom..."

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
