About this Plan

Silvaire Sedan. Rubber scale model. Wingspan 70cm.

Scan from marcelop on HPA, cleanup by Pilgrim.

Note see Luscombe Sedan (oz16196) for this plan as originally printed in Flying Models, Feb 1949.

Update 8/8/2025: Added article, thanks to Pit.

Quote (google-translated): "Although most touring planes generally lack the aesthetic qualities for a beautiful scale model, despite having excellent flying conditions, the Luscombe Sedan has many attractive features. The spacious and compact cabins, the dorsal ridge, the straight edges of its lifting surfaces, and the high-aspect-ratio wing are pleasing details.

The construction will be drawn directly from the plans, starting with the fuselage made of 2.5 mm square rods (3 minutes of sanding). When making the joints, care must be taken to ensure proper alignment so that the frames are not deformed. A small error in the frame, which supports the stabilizer, for example, will subsequently ruin flight conditions.

The two sections will be made simultaneously, allowing them to dry thoroughly before joining them with the upper and lower crossbars. Start at the height of the cabin with the longest crossbars. When the first five sections have dried, join the sides at the tail. Use elastic bands for this task.

The cabin sections will be filled with sheet, as indicated in the plans. The central part of the wing is built as an integral part of the fuselage. Then add the frames and additional rods. The rear curved part of the cabin is then filled with 5 mm soft sheet.

In the area where the landing gear is located, note that double frames are placed with a tight space between them. The landing gear wire will then be placed in this space. A performance model type landing gear is used to achieve sufficient rigidity. The landing gear is of the Sandwich type..."

ScaleType: This (oz11598) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luscombe_11
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
