About this Plan

Donald. Free flight gas sport cabin model, with twin rudders, for .75cc engines.

Quote: "A sports model for .75cc engines. This sports job is the ideal transition model for anyone progressing from rubber or glider designs to their first power model.

Flying: The model should balance at a point 5/8in forward of the rear spar. Test glide: this should be slow and flat; if not add packing as necessary, but not ballast. The prop I recommend is a Frog 6x4 nylon. With power at about half revs, and trim tab 3-6 deg. to port, launch gently into wind, not fast as it is fairly slow flying. This trim should produce a gentle left turn under power and glide.

Construction: Fuselage. Cut the fuselage sides from medium hard 1/16 sheet; former 1 from 3/16 hard balsa, formers F2, F3, F4, from medium hard 1/8 sheet, and F5, F6, F7 and F8 from medium 3/32 sheet. Join the fuselage sides with F3 and F4, and when dry add rest of formers, working towards rear, leaving F1 until last. Bend undercarriage from 14 g. piano wire and bind to ply former F3B, then sandwich between F3 and the - balsa former F3A. Cement engine bearers in position..."

Update 22/06/2011: Thanks to aldee who pointed this out, I have resized this plan to correct wingspan 38in span. It seems the plan was printed in the magazine with the span mistakenly quoted as 26in. The larger span now tallies with the 1in TE strip drawn on the wing.

Unfortunately the span and length were reversed as the Donald is actually much larger. Best Regards

I inherited one of these with an ED 0.46 built by Chief Tech Paddy Spiers at RAF Gaydon in the early 60’s. It flew beautifully (as did all his models). I often wondered about this plan being credited to SAC Peckham. Brian Peckham was well known for his model aircraft designs. Was Brian Peckham ever in the Royal Air Force as SAC was a rank in the RAF (Senior Air Craftsman)? Were Brian Peckham and SAC Peckham the same person?

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
