About this Plan

Crusader. Rubber cabin sport model.

Quote: "The Crusader, by Bob Romeiser. A 145 sq in contest design of simple construction. Best time, 21 minutes.

THE Crusader is an ideal model for beginners and the inexpe-rienced who would like to have a go at contest flying. Construction is simple, almost to the point of not looking like a contest design. It is smaller, too, than usual, a popular type such as a Korda running close to 200 square inches of wing area. The Crusader is a Class C model with 145 square inches. Nevertheless, its record proves its ability to really get up there and hook a thermal.

The Crusader's contest record includes a first at Purdue, an-other at Nashville, and a seventh in the Moffett eliminations. Best time was 21 minutes.

Construction is conventional and simple enough not to require description. The fuselage is made from hard 1/8 square balsa. All other materials are indicated on the plans. Full-size details are also supplied. Note that the fuselage comes apart at the rear hook for winding. Rubber tensioner, catch L, permits slack rubber and maintains enough tension to hold the rear of the fuselage in place.

Power is 16 strands of 3/16 flat brown rubber with 6 in of slack. Downthrust adjustments are built into the nose block. An aluminum rubber tab provides for trim."

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
