About this Plan

Weihe. Simple profile scale all-sheet glider model.

Quote: "Building Instructions. The high performance glider 'Weihe' is one the world's most successful machines; the excellent flight characteristics of the full-size glider are mirrored in the performance of this fine model.

The fuselage (1 on the plan) should be built first; cement on the landing skid and fix the towline hook (3) in the hole provided. The tail unit should then be carefully cemented to the fuselage (4 & 5) - take care to set them exactly at right-angles. The top edge of the fuselage is stiffened by cementing on the strip (11).

Glue the nose weight in place (12).

Strengthen the leading edge of the wing by cementing on the strip (7) provided. Then moisten the top of the wing with water and curve the wing by means of rubber bands; then cement (preferably overnight) before removing the rubber bartindesn.t on the ribs (8-10). Take care to let the wing dry.

One rib (8) should now be cemented to the fuselage; when thoroughly dry cement the wing rib (8) flat on to the fuselage rib (8), using plenty of UHU-hort to ensure a good joint.

The finished model should now be covered with 12 gm. Modellspan; cut the tissue carefully to shape and after laying it on the model, dope it on, through the paper, with good quality, thinned dope an a suitable brush.

Choose a calm day for test flying your Weihe, and launch it into the wind from shoulder height. If it nose-dives into the ground, remove a little of the nose weight, if it stalls, add a little weight to the nose. If the natural curve is too tight, twist the wings to correct this.

For towline starts, use a Perlon line with a small curtain ring fixed to one end. Hook on the model, get your partner to hold the model running with you against the wind, the length of the line (to start with about 20 yards) between you. Your partner should let go of the model as soon as he notices that it pulls upwards; the model will then go up on the towline and drop the hook as soon as it is overhead."

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
