About this Plan
Megow Tyro. Control line sport trainer model.
Quote: "This model has been named the TYRO because it has been especially developed for the beginner who desires to take the big step into control line flying. However, the TYRO contains every characteristic of any other control line model plus a super-stability that any expert will comment upon. The TYRO is one of the few models that will make a complete loop without 'mushing'. The TYRO responds immediately to the slightest wrist movement on the controls which makes the TYRO a superior stunt model.
Flying the TYRO: When you have completed the TYRO, choose a smooth field upon which to make your test flight. You need at least a 150 foot diameter circle to operate in. Check to see that the TYRO balances about 1-1/2 inches back from the leading edge of the wing.
If your control lines lead from the left wing of the model, turn the rudder 3/8 of an inch off center to the right. If your control lines lead from the right wing, turn your rudder off center to the left of the model, the same distance. Install new batteries. Start and adjust motor until it runs without sputtering.
Instruct your helper to hold the TYRO stationary while you follow your control lines back to your control handle. Take up the slack in your lines and give your helper the thumbs up signal to release the model.
Taxi the TYRO along the ground until it gains enough speed to be airborne. Pull hack on your controls and level the TYRO off at an altitude of about ten feet. Fly the TYRO at this altitude for several laps until you learn how the model handles.
Because the TYRO has superior stability you will learn to fly quickly. After two or three test flights you will be able to stunt the TYRO with pleasure and ease. Good luck, Matt Kania."

* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
