About this Plan

Jetco Thermic Trio. A set of three all-sheet balsa chuck gliders, with three diffrent layouts: conventional, canard and flying wing.

Quote: "Put 'fun in your flying' with Jetco's easy-to-build easy-to-fly model designs.

Instructions.

1. Study the drawings for the construction of each model. Remove the wing panels from the balsa sheet and glue these together at their proper dihedral angles.

2. Cut the fuselage to size and shape. The drawing is full size. Draw with a pencil the amount each fuselage is to be tapered and then with a razor, remove the surplus wood. Use several light strokes until the wood is cut thru. A ruler may be used as a guide.

3. Notice that the flying wing has ailerons cemented on the wing tips. The ailerons are raised up slightly in the rear. Cement on the triangular ailerons sets to hold the ailerons in the proper position.

4. Cement the wings and tails to the respective fuselages. Be sure the rudders are on straight without a turn. When the cement is dry add another coat for added strength.

5. All of the models will need a bit of clay on the nose to balance them for flying. Gently glide any one of the three models. If the model goes in a repeated series of up and down motions (stalling) add more clay to the nose until a smooth even glide is obtained. I the model dives into the ground, remove nose clay.

6. The canard may be flown with a rubber band after it has been balanced for the glide. Link some light rubber bands together until they are about 12 inches long. Slip the rubber in the wire hook (make from paper clip) stretch out the rubber and release the model pointing upwards. Be careful and do not point the model at any person when launching it."

User comments

The flying surfaces of this redrawn plan are not correct. For example, the wingspan of the canard and conventional wings are drawn at 9-1/4". They should be 8". The fuselages are correct at 3/16" x 3/8" x 8".

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
