Another photo for a plan page without photo: the King Burd [pic 003]. Mine has an atom 1.7 diesel.

Here are some photos [main pic, 004-006] of my King Burd (oz1062). This model was finished in 2001 by a friend who has since passed. It has been in continuous service since, only upgrades have been new tires, several fuel system and engine overhauls and 2.4ghz radio. Several liberties were taken from the plan; sheet balsa was substituted for reed in all wing and tail tips, control surfaces were added and the entire tailplane was made removable and is secured with rubber bands. Nose was changed significantly to accommodate a Norvel .15 glow engine fed by a 3 ounce tank, with a magnetic hatch. 0.75 ounces of nose ballast was required. Flights of over an hour have been achieved by thermalling, most of the time the engine is at idle and throttle is only used to climb.

My King Burd is reduced to 45 inches wing span, and is powered by an original (1947) Mills 1.3 Diesel. OK for nice calm days.

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
