About this Plan

PZL-104 Wilga 80. Radio control scale model, for electric power.

This plan is a free download (in dwg CAD format) from the designer's own website at http://www.teacupnavigation.net/RC.html

Quote: "This is my Wilga 80, 55 inch wingspan which is electric. It has 400 sq inch area, and weighs 39 oz full up with an 11V LiPo 2100 mAhr. The motor in the prototype was a Mega 16-15-4 with a 3.6:1 reduction, swinging a 12x6E APC prop. Turns are definitely coordinated with rudder!"

Update 1/2/2022: Added cowl STL file (for 3D printing), thanks to John Dagg.

Quote: "Hi Steve, Here is the STL file for the Wilga cowl that I designed. It can be loaded into any 3D slicer software and used to print the cowl for the Wilga. It prints best standing on its nose with support under the air scoop."

Supplementary file notes

Cowl STL zipfile.

ScaleType: This (oz10376) is a scale plan. Where possible we link scale plans to Wikipedia, using a text string called ScaleType.

If we got this right, you now have a couple of direct links (above) to 1. see the Wikipedia page, and 2. search Oz for more plans of this type. If we didn't, then see below.

    Notes:
ScaleType is formed from the last part of the Wikipedia page address, which here is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PZL-104_Wilga
Wikipedia page addresses may well change over time.
For more obscure types, there currently will be no Wiki page found. We tag these cases as ScaleType = NotFound. These will change over time.

I recently completed the Wilga designed by Rodger Farley [main pic, 003-010]. I changed the wing to a non-slotted design with standard ailerons and flaps using a Clark Y airfoil. It is powered by an Eflite Power 15 outrunner motor (950 Kv) swinging a 12x6 propeller. The battery is a 3 cell 2200 mAh LiPo. I 3D printed the cowl, servo mounts, landing gear fairings, and push rod exit for the rudder. The fuselage is strengthened with fiberglass and painted. The plane takes off without flaps in about 10 feet and flies like it is on rails. Very docile! Thanks for all you do at Outerzone! I check for new plans every day! Here are some photos of the Wilga. A beautiful job! This is one of my all-time favourite aircraft.

Looks great, I am planning on building one over Christmas and was thinking of the same modifications. Maybe the odd bit of carbon fibre to strengthen the model. Do you have the 3D print files?

The download section holds all the files we have. If you don't see it there, that's because we don't have it.

Maurice, you have the 2D CAD files, that's more than halfway to designing your own 3d components to your requirements.

Awesome plans. How much balsa wood would you need to build this? Thanks in advance

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
