About this Plan
Lil ROG, or Lil R.O.G.UE. Rubber power sheet balsa design from MAN Feb 1961.
Quote: "Simple maybe, but this little Sunday sport flier will match the perormance of many of the so-called hot shots we'vre seen flying ...One dreary Saturday afternoon last winter while idly paging through some very old model magazines we came across the construction article to the model that was the first really good flying model airplane that we had built up until that time. The model, a design by Ed Lidgard, appeared in an early 1947 issue of the old model magazines. I believe it was the one model that got me really interested in this very interesting hobby.
After reminiscing about the little model, and how well it flew, I decided to build another one just like it. Unfortunately the plans had been cut out of the magazine and were lost. It was then decided to design one similar, but incorporating our own ideas.
Constructionwise we believe it is almost identical to Ed's design except for the diagonal fuselage braces. I remember literally flying the tissue off of Ed's design, (the result of many broken motors) and the fuselage without the covering twisted dangerously every time the motor was wound. The diagonal braces will prevent this although we recommend that any torn covering be replaced before flying.
Design wise we used the same general proportions as our latest Wakefield design with the exception of the larger tail surfaces. Over the years we've noticed, when building small models such as this, that the tail surfaces had to be unusually large to insure good performance. A 7in Top Flite plastic prop for rubber power was used instead of a balsa prop because we believe it to be better. This prop is the best one currently available and really does a nice iob of hauling the model around. It also has a freewheeling device on it.
Happily, Lil R.O.G.U.E. turned out to be better than we had anticipated. It is extremely stable under all conditions and proved no problem to adjust. We've flown it on windy days as well as calm days and never cease to be amazed at its performance. It will perform nicely within the confines of a school yard on hand turns or, if you have a little more room, fly higher and farther by packing more turns in with a winder..."

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
