Lockheed P-38 Lightning (oz10029)
About this Plan
Lockheed P-38 Lightning. Profile model for control line.
Note this kit did not come will a full plan as such, more of an illustrated assembly instruction sheet.
Quote: "I scanned all the wood parts when I removed them from the diecut sheets. The files are large, and will need some processing, but this should be enough information to build this model. Mine was completed and flies quite well.
I deviated from the plans slightly on this model. The plans have you build the model with the front line as the 'up' line. Most control line models the rear line is the 'up' line. Part of why I did this is the elevator on a P-38 is not visible from the centre of the circle. I used an all wire pushrod with a threaded clevis at the elevator to be able to adjust the centre position of the elevator. I used a nylon bellcrank and used small diameter wires for the leadouts from the bellcrank to the wingtip. I remade the landing gear wires with longer shafts for the wheels so I could retain the wheels with wheel collars. I enlarged the three view of the plan to make patterns for the canopy. The model flies well, and will continue to fly regardless of which engine quits first."

Model photo and more pics 003-005 came from Mike Halbrook.Mary - 22/05/2018
Here are two images for the plan [more pics 007, 008]. Most c/l models flown counter clockwise do slightly better with the front leadout up.

Awesome just what I needed, I just picked up this kit for $5 at an antique shop because it was missing the plans but looks like all the wooden parts are there.

Notes
* Credit field
The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.
Scaling
This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
