Plan file details

1937 Simmons Wakefield. Competition rubber model. Quote: "1937 Wakefield and King Peter Cup entry, by HN Simmons. This drawing was made by Terry Rose, 26.1.88 from information in the 1947 Model Aeronautic Digest. This prototype designed and built in 1937 had the fuselage airscrew and undercarriage French polished. The 1938 model had bamboo paper covered fuselage and balsa airscrew, this reduced the weight to 8.6 ounces! This gave no improvement in performance, it being thought at the time that the reduced drag of the polished planked fuselage equalised the lower weight but increased drag of the bamboo covered fuselage."
