About this Plan

Trilogy - 100in wingspan thermal glider.

Quote: - "The basis for this model came about in 1978. This version was built being a lighter version of the earlier one. Several were built, by various people and success was achieved by most who constructed it. Noteably G. Read who won the first ever Open at Radio Glide in 1978 with one. This one had flaps and a modified wing section ie Eppler 174. My own version was flown regularly in 78-79. A couple of seasons later I gave the model to a friend, Dave Mason. He has since re-covered it, the photographs shown here are of the original recovered one, some eleven years old! Why not experiment and fit a Selig 3021 airfoil or Eppler 205, 174 etc. The basic shape and construction lends itself to experimentation.
As shown the model makes an excellent beginners glider. It is docile, both on and off the line or bungee. The stall is predictable and gentle. It has excellent ability to detect lift and once in lift will circle tightly in small areas, plus it centres on a lift area, well. Now that spoilers are allowed in 100s competition, I would advise the fitting of them. Flying a glider without spoilers, is like flying a power model without throttle control.
The construction is slightly different, rather than difficult. So a few pointers will help the tongue in cheek expert, as well as the beginner. Having myself charged into building models and other things, without reading instructions and regretting it, stop and read this. It may save you time..."

Notes

* Credit field

The Credit field in the Outerzone database is designed to recognise and credit the hard work done in scanning and digitally cleaning these vintage and old timer model aircraft plans to get them into a usable format. Currently, it is also used to credit people simply for uploading the plan to a forum on the internet. Which is not quite the same thing. This will change soon. Probably.

Scaling

This model plan (like all plans on Outerzone) is supposedly scaled correctly and supposedly will print out nicely at the right size. But that doesn't always happen. If you are about to start building a model plane using this free plan, you are strongly advised to check the scaling very, very carefully before cutting any balsa wood.
